1. Requirements for Entry

    Only those who have completed the application to use the Department of Research and Experiment, have finished radiation worker training, and have been issued the thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD badge), a personal radiation protection device, may enter and use the facility.

  2. 2

    Researchers must complete the statutory new safety training (20 hours) and the annual regular training (6 hours); usage is restricted if these are not completed.

  3. 3

    Radiation workers must undergo a regular health examination every year.

2. RI Purchase

  1. 1

    Isotopes must be purchased through the Radiation Safety Management Office (02-2072-1607); unauthorized personal purchases are strictly prohibited.

  2. 2

    All isotopes must be stored in an authorized location (RI storage room, CMI Room B2309) in shielded storage containers.

  3. 3

    To prevent contamination of the sealed container itself, always check for contamination; if contamination occurs, report it immediately and take corrective action.

3. Disposal Procedure

    All waste must be disposed of according to the established procedure, after notifying the person in charge and in their presence.

  2. 2

    Sorted collection of waste: All waste is processed by separating it into liquid and solid waste according to nuclide.

    • · Liquid waste – separated into water-soluble and oil-soluble
    • · Solid waste – separated into combustible and non-combustible
    • · Caution: When disposing of liquid waste, make sure the collection container does not overflow and dispose of it slowly.

    Tissues, Poly gloves, Safer mats, and similar items used in radioisotope experiments must also be discarded in the waste bins provided in the Radioisotope Laboratory, on the assumption that they have been radioactively contaminated.

  4. 4

    Measurement samples for analysis must be removed from the instrument immediately after measurement, rather than left in it, and disposed of as radioactive waste.

  5. 5

    After disposal, record the disposal details in the waste logbook.

4. Rules for Radiation Workers

The Radioisotope Laboratory is operated in accordance with the hospital's safety management guidelines and the relevant Nuclear Safety Act and radiation safety regulations.

    All use of radioisotopes must take place within authorized facilities.

  2. 2

    Observe the rules of the Radioisotope Laboratory.

  3. 3

    During experiments, always wear protective equipment such as a lab coat, protective gloves, and dedicated shoes; eating and smoking inside the laboratory are strictly prohibited.

  4. 4

    Before and after experiments, always measure the contamination of the workbench and related facilities, and record the values and a signature in the contamination measurement log.

  5. 5

    Radioactive waste must be strictly separated by nuclide and by form (liquid/solid) and disposed of according to the established procedure in the presence of the person in charge.

  6. 6

    In the event of a contamination incident, regardless of its scale, report it to the person in charge immediately; untrained persons must not attempt decontamination on their own.

  7. 7

    Even small exposures are regarded as harmful; if contamination occurs, promptly contact the person in charge and receive the necessary measures.

  8. 8

    Remember that accidents arise from overconfidence and negligence; always perform a preliminary test before starting an experiment and keep the surroundings thoroughly tidy.
